Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDTs) guide
Additional evidence is required dependent on the criterion you apply under.
The National Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) team will accept attached supporting evidence to your application in any format, as long as the document is readable.
For criterion 1A, 1B, 2 and 5 only the mandatory documents as detailed in the previous page is required, no additional evidence is required at time of application.
Evidence for required criterions is listed below.
Criterion 3
You must also submit the full version of the birth/adoption certificate. This is to confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren). The birth certificate must also include the full name of the child and parent names. The short version of the birth certificate, which contains only the child's details will not be accepted.
You must also provide supporting documentation to evidence the need to transfer to the prospective region as a result of your childcare responsibilities.
Some examples are listed below.
If you are applying due to a change of circumstance of your partner obtaining a job in another region which will affect your parental responsibilities, you will need to evidence proof of their employment offer.
If you are applying because your child(ren) family support lives in another region, you will need to provide proof of address of your partner/ family members living in the prospective region.
The above is not an exhaustive list, the National IDT team will accept any reasonable evidence, if it demonstrates a significant and unforeseen change in circumstances since accepting offer to programme and a transfer to a new region is required.
Criterion 4
Your IDT application must containt a statement detailing how your personal circumstances changed, since accepting an offer to your training programme, in relation to a committed relationship (or breakdown of) on the date included in your application.
You must also provide supporting documentation to evidence the need to transfer to the prospective region as a result of your committed relationship (or breakdown of).
Some examples are listed below.
If you are applying because your partner has a job offer in another region you will also have to supply evidence proof of their employment offer.
If you are applying because your partner lives in another region you will also have to supply evidence of your partner’s residence in the region that you wish transfer.
The above is not an exhaustive list, the National IDT team will accept any reasonable evidence, if it demonstrates a significant and unforeseen change in circumstances since accepting offer to programme and a transfer to a new region is required.
You are able to apply if you or your partner are pregnant or undergoing IVF treatment. You will need to provide a GP or Midwife letter of confirmation and evidence of need to move to your requested region.
False information
Information provided at the application stage, including information supplied on the application form and any attached supporting documents, should be completed to the best of your knowledge.
If it is subsequently discovered that any statement is false or misleading, or that relevant information has been withheld, particularly on eligibility, criminal convictions and fitness to practise, an application may be disqualified or, if a transfer has already been confirmed, then this may be withdrawn. It may also be appropriate to report any such incidents to the General Medical Council (GMC). You must sign to acknowledge this on the application portal.
After submission
After you have submitted your application, the National IDT team will process the entire application form and all supporting documents, including the review of all information contained within the application for the purposes of checking eligibility. You will then be written to with confirmation of your eligibility status in line with the published timeline.
Reports for regions
Following the eligibility process, local training regions will receive 2 reports.
Incoming report (regions you have preferenced to transfer to)
An anonymous report of basic information will be sent to colleagues in training regions across the UK when eligibility has been determined, to assist in the search for appropriate posts. This information will include the following.
Application ID.
Specialty (including Dual/Triple specialty if applicable).
Level of Training at point of application and point of transfer.
Current region and any specific location requests.
Criterion applied under.
Less-than-full-time (LTFT) request.
Training completed to date and still to complete.
Exams completed and outstanding.
Academic status.
Return date if currently OOP or on Parental Leave.
Months remaining (WTE) at grade at point of transfer and months completed.
Specific locations listed within application.
Outgoing report (your current training region)
A report will be sent to your current training region containing identifiable information, this for the purposes listed below.
For regions to review and flag any causes for concern or Fitness to Practice related details to National IDT team, which may need to be included as part of regions Transfer of Information
To assist regions in identifying possible vacancies within programme and a specific location.
The report information will include the following.
Application identity (ID).
Applicant name.
Applicant GMC.
Specialty (including Dual/Triple specialty if applicable).
Level of Training at point of application and point of transfer.
