Accessibility Statement for the National Website Platform
This accessibility statement applies to the following websites formerly managed by Health Education England (HEE) and which are built on the National Website Platform (NWP).
These websites are run by NHS England. We want as many people as possible to be able to use these websites. For example, that means you should be able to:
- use your web browser to change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
- use the website even if Javascript is switched off
- access the website using a mobile or tablet
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. Some of our content is technical, and we use technical terms where there is no easier wording we could use without changing what the text means.
If you have a disability then AbilityNet has advice to help you make your device easier to use.
How accessible this website is
We know that some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible. For example:
- some pages display components with very low contrast
- some pages may display inconsistent heading sizes and spacing
- some pages may use the same names for links

Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content and non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content listed below is non-compliant for the following reasons:
- 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) - The search area displays very low contrast

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services. However if there is a specific document that you would like to request in HTML format we will do our best to oblige where possible and practicable. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations, however to ensure accessibility, we record our live videos and caption them.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
NHS England has recently merged with Health Education England and NHS Digital to form a single organisation. We are currently in the planning phase of a major project to create a new consolidated NHS England website and improve accessibility to ensure compliance with the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. We will update this page with current information about the improvements we make.
