Instructions to complete the verified self-assessment as part of the ST4 Psychiatry recruitment process for February 2025 recruitment

Important: Important

This guidance is for February 2025 recruitment only.

Self-assessment

The scores you award yourself in each domain of the ST4 Psychiatry self-assessment in the application form will be verified by an assessor.

Please make sure you score yourself accurately at the time of application. It is strongly suggested that you read these instructions in full before submitting your application form by no later than the given deadline (see recruitment timelines).

You will need to upload the evidence for each domain where you have scored yourself greater than zero within the given window (see recruitment timelines).

You may also need to provide a summary of your employment history including any gaps or periods of working less than full time.

This should be done through the self-assessment verification portal. You will receive a username and further instructions following the longlisting period. It is not possible to do this in advance of the advertised upload window.

Key points

You need to make it as easy as possible for assessors to interpret your evidence.

This means you should go for quality over quantity when providing evidence. You should not need to submit more than the recommended number of documents in each domain. Remember that the more irrelevant material you upload, the greater the possibility that the assessors will miss key information.

Assessors are also instructed to look at the first few pieces of evidence up to the maximum number allowed. If the maximum number allowed is 3 and you have uploaded 10 pieces of evidence, the assessor will only look at the first 3. There is a high possibility that the relevant evidence might be lost in the last 7 pieces of evidence and not be considered for a score.

If you do not follow these instructions, then you should be aware that your verified self-assessment score may be lower than to the score you have awarded yourself.

You must look at the kind of evidence which has been asked for in each domain. If the domain asks for a certificate for a qualification, you should provide that. If the domain asks for a letter on headed paper, you should provide that. Some domains will give alternatives, while others will ask for 2 key pieces of evidence and both will have to be provided to get a score. Read the guidance carefully.

Use of verified self-assessment score

Your verified self-assessment score will make up 17.5% of your final ST4 Psychiatry score. There is no minimum score required for the verified self-assessment in order to be considered appointable.
