If you score well enough in the Multi-Specialty Recruitment Assessment (MSRA) but do not reach the bypass score, you will to be invited to an online interview.

Preparing for the interview

You will need to check in advance that:

  • you have a good Internet connection
  • you can sit in the interview room alone with no distractions
  • have a laptop or computer with a working webcam and microphone
  • you have a web browser that isn't Safari (we recommend Google Chrome)

Documents checked at your interview

When you join the online interview, you will be greeted by an administrator first who will ask you to show your passport to the screen with the picture page open.

You will also be asked to show the administrator the room you are in to ensure that you are sitting the interview alone and that you are in a suitable place.

Interview dates

If eligible, your invitations to interview will be sent out on the specified date (see the recruitment timelines page).

Interviews are booked on a first come first served basis on one of the advertised interview dates. Interview capacity is based on post numbers and panel members availability.

Booking an interview slot

You must consider any applicable service and rota issues whenever possible when booking your interview place.

You will receive an email which will contain details of how you can use the online booking facility, to book an interview slow, within your Oriel account. Once you have logged into the system and have booked an interview slot, you will receive a confirmation email.

If there are technical issues during your interview, we will attempt to re-arrange your interview slot for later in that same day, so you may want to consider making sure you have no commitments later during the day of your interview. However, we don't anticipate this being an issue for most applicants.

The interview format

It is aniticipated that interviews will last 25 minutes.

The interview will consist of clinical prioritisation task and structured interview questions.

Timing

You are advised to log on for your interview slot 15 minutes before the designated interview time you have booked to allow for sufficient time for document checking to be completed prior to the interview. A link will be provided to you in the days before.

If you arrive late for your scheduled interview, then you should be prepared for the fact that it may not be possible to give you a later slor or rearrange another interview for you. Should this happen, we will be unable to progress your application any further.

The interview panel

All panel members will be trained and briefed on the interview process in question and specifically on the importance of maintaining consistent scoring parameters.

There will be a minimum of 2 assessors on any given online interview panel. Interviewers are asked to score independently. Throughout the interview session, all scores awarded are reviewed by the interview panel, a lay chair and the recruitment lead. Any significant discrepancies in scores between interviewers are highlighted and discussed.

Where discrepancies in scores are deemed to be justified - that is, each interviewer has scored consistently within the set scoring parameters - the score stands. Where deemed not justified, the score is amended. An amendment is a reasonably rare occurence, given interviewers are trained to score consistently. It is not unusual for candidates to be awarded score that vary between interviewers. As a result, there is no appeals process for interview scores.

Concerns on the day

If an issue happens on the day of the interview, you should ask to speak to teh Recruitment Lead. If you are unable to do this, please email use on the same day and we will look into the matter for you.

Feedback

Final selection scores will be made available on Oriel after initial offers have been made. This will consist of your interview score and rank. It will also include the minimum threshold you must reach to be deemed appointable. Your MSRA score will also be available on Oriel.

If you attended an interview, you will recieve a seperate copy of your interview scores plus assessor feedback generated from the digital scoring system. This feedback will be issued to all applicants, including those who are appointable (whether they receive an offer or not) or are not appointable. There is no need to request it.
