A guide to final selection scores for ST4 Psychiatry specialties

Important: Accuracy

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information contained on this page. The information presented is accurate at the time of publication.

The final score for ST4 Psychiatry consists of 3 elements.

  • Verified Self-Assessment score.
  • Online interview score.
  • Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies (CASC) exam (adjusted to be comparable between diets).

This final score is used to rank eligible applicants, and offers are then made in rank order.

You will be able to see a summary of your scores and your overall ST4 Psychiatry rank via your Oriel account prior to offers being released.

Verified Self-Assessment Score

During the verification window, clinical assessors will review the evidence uploaded to the Self-Assessment portal with the responses given in the application form. The verified/amended scores will be available via the Oriel system following both the review and appeals process.

The maximum achievable raw score for this element is 45 marks. When weighted, this accounts for 17.5% of the overall score.

Online Interview Score

You will be sent your raw online interview scores and assessor feedback by email in PDF format. To be considered ‘appointable’, you must score at least 50% overall (raw score) and a minimum of 6/20 on both Part A and Part B in the interview.

The maximum raw score for this element is 50 marks. When weighted, this accounts for 32.5% of the overall score.

CASC Exam Score

CASC exam scores have been adjusted to be comparable between diets, and between days within specific diets.

To do this, we have used a pass mark of 50% for the recruitment process. This means that all applicants’ adjusted CASC scores will be lower than their original CASC mark.

For example, if the pass mark on the day you took your CASC was 62.2% and you scored 62.2%, your adjusted CASC score would be 50%.

When weighted, the CASC score accounts for 50% of the overall score.

Appointability

In order to be found appointable, you will need to have met a minimum score of 50% on the online interview (25/50), with at least 6/20 in both Part A and Part B. Those who have not met the appointability threshold at interview will see that their Oriel application status changes to Interview Unsuccessful. There is no minimum required score for the other 2 elements (Self-Assessment, scaled CASC score).

Tie breaks

In the event that scores are tied with another applicant, we will look at scores in the following order to determine individual ranks.

  1. Adjusted Casc Score.
  2. Total Interview Score.
  3. Total Verified Self-Assessment Score.
