Gastroenterology ST4

You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS, MBBS) degree or other equivalent medical qualification.

You must:

• Be eligible to work in the UK
• Hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) at the time of application, and hold a current licence to practise on the date your post commences
• Meet the standards set out in Good Medical Practice, and not be subject to fitness to practise conditions which would prevent you taking up the post or performing fully within it

You must not

• Hold, nor be eligible to hold, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), nor
• Already be eligible for the specialist register for this specialty, including through the Portfolio Pathway.

You must be able to provide complete details of your employment history, including any gaps.

• You must complete all sections of the application form fully and truthfully, in accordance with written guidelines
• You must disclose in your application if you are subject to any ongoing fitness to practise proceedings or are subject to any fitness to practise conditions
• If you are currently in specialty training and applying to continue training in the same specialty in another region, you must obtain a Support for Application to another region form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School of your current Specialty Training Programme. This must confirm satisfactory progress and be submitted with your application
• If you have previously resigned, or been removed from a training programme in any specialty, you must obtain a Support for Reapplication to Specialty Training form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School and Postgraduate Dean from the region you previously undertook training in. This must be submitted with your application

You must have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities. This can be evidenced using one of the following methods:

• Current employment in one of the following programmes which leads to successful completion of Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training by the advertised post start date for the vacancy: 
  • UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training
  • UK ACCS (Internal Medicine)  
  • UK Broad Based Training (medicine route)
  • A JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme
• Successful completion of one of the programmes listed above at the time of application, evidenced by satisfactory ARCP. This must be submitted with your application.
• Completion of a UK Core Medical Training or ACCS (Acute Medicine) training programme and a further standalone third year (IMY3).
• Completion of UK ST3 in General Internal Medicine and satisfactory progress for any subsequent GIM training, evidenced by satisfactory ARCP. This must be submitted with your application. It is expected that applicants in this situation will have completed at least six months of GIM training as part of their higher specialty training programme by the advertised start date.
• An acceptable version and satisfactorily completed Alternative Certificate to Enter Group 1 Higher Physician Specialty Training. This must be submitted with your application.

You must have sufficient whole time equivalent experience working in medical specialties (not including foundation level experience) by the advertised post start date for the vacancy. This can be via by: 

• Completing training in one of the following programmes:
  • UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training 
  • UK ACCS (Internal Medicine)  
  • UK Broad Based Training (medicine route) 
  • A standalone UK IMY3 programme (following completion of UK core medical training/ACCS (acute medicine)) 
  • JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme or 
• Having at least 36 months’ whole time equivalent experience in medical specialties (of which at least 18 months must include the care of acute medical in-patients). Experience in certain acute care common stem specialties can be counted towards the 36 months in some circumstances.

If you wish to be considered for Locum Appointment for Training posts (where available): you must have no more than 24 months experience in LAT posts in this specialty by the advertised post start date for the vacancy.

You must have any of the following: 

• MRCP(UK) Part 1 at time of application and MRCP(UK) full diploma by offer date.
• Eligibility for the specialist register in general internal medicine, approved by the GMC, at the time of application.
• Completion of Irish Basic Specialty Training in medicine and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) full diploma by offer date.
