Emergency Medicine ST3 (Defined route of entry and ACCS route)

You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS, MBBS) degree or other equivalent medical qualification.

You must:

• Be eligible to work in the UK
• Hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) at the time of application, and hold a current licence to practise on the date your post commences
• Meet the standards set out in Good Medical Practice, and not be subject to fitness to practise conditions which would prevent you taking up the post or performing fully within it

You must not

• Hold, nor be eligible to hold, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), nor
• Already be eligible for the specialist register for this specialty, including through the Portfolio Pathway.

You must be able to provide complete details of your employment history, including any gaps.

• You must complete all sections of the application form fully and truthfully, in accordance with written guidelines
• You must disclose in your application if you are subject to any ongoing fitness to practise proceedings or are subject to any fitness to practise conditions
• If you are currently in specialty training and applying to continue training in the same specialty in another region, you must obtain a Support for Application to another region form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School of your current Specialty Training Programme. This must confirm satisfactory progress and be submitted with your application
• If you have previously resigned, or been removed from a training programme in any specialty, you must obtain a Support for Reapplication to Specialty Training form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School and Postgraduate Dean from the region you previously undertook training in. This must be submitted with your application

For appointment to ST3 Emergency Medicine posts

Capability/Competences

You must have achieved CT1/ST1 competences in ACCS specialties at the time of application and CT2/ST2 competences in ACCS specialties by the advertised post start date for the vacancy. This must be evidenced by satisfactory ARCP outcomes.

Experience

You must have completed 24 months (whole time equivalent) of ACCS training in an approved UK training programme by the advertised post start date for the vacancy.

For appointment to Defined Route of Entry - Emergency Medicine (DRE-EM) posts

Capability/Competences

You must have achieved CT1/ST1 competences in surgery at the time of application and CT2/ST2 competences in surgery by the advertised post start date for the vacancy. This must be evidenced by satisfactory ARCP outcomes.

Experience

You must have completed:

• Core Surgical Training or the first 2 years (whole time equivalent) of run through training in a surgical specialty within an approved UK training programme by the advertised post start date for the vacancy AND
• Completed at least 6 months (whole time equivalent) in Emergency Medicine (not including Foundation modules) at the time of application evidenced by achievement of ACCS CT/ST1 competences supported by evidence from workplace-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPs, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multi Source Feedback at the time of application.

Professional examinations

You must have been awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) by examination by the initial offers released by date for the round.

For appointment to Defined Route of Entry - Emergency Medicine (DRE-EM) posts

Capability/Competences

You must have achieved CT1/ST1 and CT2/ST2 competences in surgery at the time of application. This must be evidenced by a satisfactorily completed Alternative Certificate of Eligibility to Enter Higher Surgical Training.

Experience

You must have:

• Completed the equivalent of Core Surgical Training at the time of application AND
• Completed at least 6 months (whole time equivalent) in Emergency Medicine (not including Foundation modules) at the time of application evidenced by achievement of ACCS CT/ST1 competences supported by evidence from workplace-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPs, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multi Source Feedback at the time of application.

Professional examinations

You must have been awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) by examination by the initial offers released by date for the round.

For appointment to Defined Route of Entry - Emergency Medicine (DRE-EM) posts

Capability/Competences

You must have achieved CT1/ST1 ACCS competences at the time of application. For posts not GMC approved for Emergency Medicine or ACCS training a satisfactorily completed Alternative Certificate to Enter ST3 Defined Route of Entry - Emergency Medicine (DRE-EM) Specialty Training must be provided at the time of application.

Experience

You must have evidence of a minimum of 24 months’ (whole time equivalent) experience (not including Foundation modules) at core trainee level in ACCS specialties by the advertised post start date for the vacancy of which at least 12 months must be in Emergency Medicine.

ACCS specialties are:

• Emergency Medicine
• Acute Internal Medicine
• Anaesthetics
• Intensive Care Medicine

Non training posts will be recognised where evidence is available that the competences achieved are equivalent to training posts.

Professional examinations

You must hold full Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry (MRCPsych) by offer date.

You must have demonstrable advanced life support skills at the time of application demonstrated by one of the following methods:

• Current certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent OR
• Supporting evidence as
  • work based assessment
  • simulation
  • faculty statement (must have all 3 types).
