Qualifications
You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS, MBBS) degree or other equivalent medical qualification.
Registration and Right to Work
You must:
- be eligible to work in the UK.
- hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) at the time of application, and hold a current licence to practise on the date your post commences.
- meet the standards set out in Good Medical Practice, and not be subject to fitness to practise conditions which would prevent you taking up the post or performing fully within it.
You must not
- hold, nor be eligible to hold, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) for this specialty.
- already be eligible for the specialist register for this specialty.
Career history
You must be able to provide complete details of your employment history, including any gaps.
Disclosure
- You must complete all sections of the application form fully and truthfully, in accordance with written guidelines.
- You must disclose in your application if you are subject to any ongoing fitness to practise proceedings or are subject to any fitness to practise conditions.
- If you are currently in specialty training and applying to continue training in the same specialty in another region, you must obtain a Support for Application to another region form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School of your current Specialty Training Programme. This must confirm satisfactory progress and be submitted with your application.
- If you have previously resigned, or been removed from a training programme in any specialty, you must obtain a Support for Reapplication to Specialty Training form signed by the Training Programme Director/Head of School and Postgraduate Dean from the region you previously undertook training in. This must be submitted with your application.
Capabilities, Experience and Professional Examinations
Applicants currently in a CT3/ST3 post in a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine training programme
Capability/Competences
You must have evidence of achievement of CT1/ST1, CT2/ST2, and CT3/ST3 ACCS Emergency Medicine competences, by the advertised post start date for the vacancy.
Experience
You must have evidence of current employment in a UK CT3/ST3 Emergency Medicine programme which leads to successful completion of the programme by the advertised post start date for the vacancy. This can be evidenced by:
- Providing your current ACCS Emergency Medicine UK National Training Number and satisfactory ARCP outcomes.
If you wish to be considered for Locum Appointment for Training posts (where available) you must have no more than 24 months experience in LAT posts in this specialty by the advertised post start date for the vacancy.
Professional Examinations
By the ‘initial offers released by’ date for the round; you must have either:
- been awarded Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (MRCEM) (MRCEM Primary, Intermediate and OSCE) or
- completed FRCEM Intermediate Certificate (Primary, Intermediate and SJP).
Applicants who have completed a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine training programme
Capability/Competences
You must have evidence of achievement of CT1/ST1, CT2/ST2, and CT3/ST3 ACCS Emergency Medicine competences. This can be evidenced by:
- Successful completion of a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine programme supported by satisfactory ARCP outcome. This must be submitted with your application.
Experience
You must have evidence of 36 months’ training at CT1/ST1, CT2/ST2 and CT3/ST3 level in ACCS specialties. This can be evidenced by:
- Successful completion of a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine programme supported by satisfactory ARCP outcome. This must be submitted with your application.
If you wish to be considered for Locum Appointment for Training posts (where available) you must have no more than 24 months experience in LAT posts in this specialty by the advertised post start date for the vacancy.
Professional Examinations
By the ‘initial offers released by’ date for the round; you must have either:

All other applicants
Capability/Competences
You must have evidence of achievement of CT1/ST1, CT2/ST2, and CT3/ST3 ACCS Emergency Medicine competences. This can be evidenced by:
- A completed Alternative Certificate of Readiness to Enter Higher Emergency Medicine Specialist Training, submitted at the time of application.
Experience
You must have evidence of 36 months’ training at CT1/ST1, CT2/ST2 and CT3/ST3 level in ACCS specialties. This must include a minimum of:
- 12 months in Emergency Medicine.
- 3 consecutive months in Acute Medicine.
- 6 consecutive months in Anaesthesia.
- 6 consecutive months in Intensive Care Medicine.
- 3 consecutive months in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
Experience in the above posts must be gained within a post that is specifically within the named specialty i.e. not combined with another specialty.
For posts not GMC approved for Emergency Medicine or ACCS training acceptable evidence is:
- A completed Alternative Certificate of Readiness to Enter Higher Emergency Medicine Specialist Training, submitted at the time of application AND
- A letter on hospital headed paper confirming dates, grade and specialty for each post, submitted at the time of application.
All experience in the ACCS Emergency Medicine specialties must be gained and evidenced by the time of application.

You must be competent to manage adult and paediatric resuscitation both medical and trauma. This must be evidenced by either:
- Confirmation of competence from your most recent appropriate consultant supervisor; or
- In date course certificates, at the time of application.
