A GP Partner and finance lead, Luton Bedfordshire

I’m a GP partner and finance lead for an inner city teaching practice that serves a multi-ethnic population in one of the most deprived areas of Luton - that in itself brings challenges to the job.

As a GP and family planning trainer with a special interest in women’s health, I run a fortnightly clinic in my practice.

I really enjoy the education side of my work and am recognised as a clinical teacher at the Clinical School in Cambridge teaching and examining medical students on a sessional basis.

My portfolio role has included prevention, heath inequality and research. Highlights are the establishment of a Luton-wide patient reference group and commissioning a one stop prevention service called Luton Wellbeing. I was a CCG Board member and GP advisor on the primary care improvement research project ‘IMPROVE’ lead by Professor Martin Roland, CBE of Cambridge University.

Being a member of the local LMC, helps me to keep up to date with CCG and NHS England developments as well as AiTs and first 5 year GPs. Locally I’m an ambassador for the RCGP and part of that role is to influence the implementation of the general practice five-year forward view, which gives me further insight into the changing landscape of our local and National Health Service provision.

Recently, I’ve reduced from 9 to 5 clinical sessions at the practice, which means I can continue to pursue my variety of interests.
