The Faculty of Public Health has today published a report from Imperial College which looks at equality, diversity, and inclusion in the recruitment process for Public Health (PH) specialty training in the UK.

It has highlighted that age, ethnicity and professional background contribute to applicants' likelihood of being recruited particularly at the assessment centre stage.

Commenting on the report Adrian Brooke, Co-Chair, MDRS Board said:

“We welcome this report, the challenge it sets is very clear, more needs to be done to improve attainment for these groups to help increase their chances of gaining training places. The board welcome the news that we and the Faculty are already working on this to look at alternative testing options including the availability of information for applicants.

Medical and Dental Recruitment and Selection (MDRS) Group (UK)  is committed to making sure specialty training is as accessible as it can be. We will be working closely with the Faculty of Public Health to look at what more can be done to support the most affected groups. We are currently looking at providing funding for further work on applicant testing."
