The British Medical Association (BMA) announcement that Junior Doctors will take part in 3 days of industrial action from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 March 2023 will impact the specialty training interviews that are scheduled for those days. This is because interviewers may be needed to support clinical services in their Trusts.

The specialties that will be affected are:

  • Anaesthetics ST4
  • Cardiology ST4
  • Community Sexual and Reproductive Health ST1
  • Core Surgical Training CT1
  • Dental Public Health ST1
  • General (Internal) Medicine ST4
  • Geriatric Medicine ST4
  • Emergency Medicine and Defined Route of Entry - Emergency Medicine (DRE-EM) ST3/ST4
  • Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus ST4
  • Medical Ophthalmology ST3
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) ST1 and ST3
  • Paediatrics ST3/ST4
  • Sport and Exercise Medicine ST3

We will be in touch with all impacted candidates next week to let you know whether your interview will go ahead as planned.

Where it is not possible to conduct the interview, we will try and provide alternative interview dates. The need to provide 6 weeks' notice to clinical interviewers means that if an interview is rearranged, it may not take place until April 2023.

We are working very hard to avoid changing the recruitment processes (for example to verified self-assessment questionnaires alone) for any of the affected specialties.

This will be upsetting news and we fully appreciate that candidates may be worried about these changes and the potential delay in finding out the outcome of your application.

If you have specific questions about this, please contact the relevant recruitment team. The teams will aim to respond as quickly as possible.
