Anaesthetics National Recruitment Office (ANRO) Statement on Core Anaesthesia recruitment 2023

We have identified that a small number of applicants to core anaesthetics training were incorrectly emailed last week informing they would be invited to interview, when in fact they were on the reserve list for interview. We apologise for this error and have individually emailed each affected candidate to clarify their position and apologise to them.

We fully appreciate the additional stress and anxiety this has caused applicants to the specialty. We have taken immediate steps to resolve the underlying cause for the mistake and put in additional resources to reduce the risk of this happening again.

The error has highlighted that there is still further work for us to do to improve the recruitment processes and our communication with candidates to medical specialty recruitment. We have met with the Royal College of Anaesthetists and have committed to keep them updated as we work to identify the reasons for this mistake at an organisational level and to take any further steps necessary to deliver as fair and robust a recruitment process as possible.
